Workers Memorial Day is the day that we celebrate the founding of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and we mourn those who we lost on the job over the last year. Since OSHA was founded in 1971, tens of thousands of fatal accidents have been prevented and even more workplace injuries have been prevented. I would ask all of our members to take a moment and remember our IBEW members that lost their lives over the past year, especially a fellow New York IBEW member Jeremy Kearns. Jeremy was a member of IBEW 1249, which is based in Syracuse. He lost his life in November when the helicopter he was working in crashed into some power lines. As Mother Jones said "Pray for the dead and fight like hell for the living"
